Summary
What if we could get all of our electricity from air? The science-fiction sounding idea may soon become a reality. Since there is electricity in the air, scientists and inventors have come up with an idea to harvest the electricity from the air and convert it into usable energy. There was an invention prototype that was created and presented at the 240th National Meeting of American Chemical Society.
The invention uses hygroelectricity, also known as humidity electricity, meaning that when it is humid out, the electricity is more charged up. The invention will be useful in northeast and southeast USA and tropical, humid areas. It will also be very helpful in areas that are hit with lightning storms. Not only will the lightning be absorbed into the device, but it will also create electricity. Everyone wins with this invention.
Opinion
I think that it is so cool how they can get electricity from the air and put it in useful energy. We are constantly looking for alternative energy and this is a resource which we can use over and over again because it doesn't take anything from the environment that is necessary. Also, makes lightning storms slightly safer. If a building got hit with a lightning bolt, the invention will absorb the electricity. No one gets shocked, but everyone gets electricity. Also, the nearly free electricity will lower the bills for the households and buildings using them. This invention could work nearly anywhere, all you need is air.
Questions
- Do you think scientists will be able to make such invention?
- How would the humidity affect the levels of electricity in the air?
- Do you think we could replace our usage of nonrenewable resources completely with hygroelectricity?
- What do you think is better: solar energy or hygroelectricity? Why?

I remember reading somewhere something similar to this. Nikola Tesla invented this engine for an electric car that had no batteries. It was powered by the earth's magnetic field. It was unlimited power, but he took it with him and died. I think Tesla's invention is similar to this because it is like getting power from thin air. I also remember seeing a picture and reading about Tesla testing a light bulb. He stuck it to the ground(dirt) and it lit up. I was amazed at how similar it was to this article.
ReplyDelete1) I think scientist will be able to make this because Nikola Tesla made a similar invention like this and he was born in 1856. If an old scientist can do it, then we are able to do it too. I think it will take some time because it still is a new thing for us.
This is a picture of a lightning that will be collected in the future.

Wow, electricity from humid air? Sounds a little far-fetched but if it works, it works. One of what seems like the best parts of this invention is that it can help protect people from lightning in addition to supplying electricity.0

I think this idea sounds pretty interesting. Its pretty cool that we can get electricity in the air around us. We should definetly use this for electricity. It is easy to get and is renewable. We wouldn't be worried about running out of sources for electricity, we would have enough all around us. I hope they find a way to use the air for electricity.
ReplyDelete2. The more humidity there is in the air the more electricity you would have. So this type of electricity would be great for areas with high humidity.
It's nice to know people's small ideas and thoughts are being transferred into reality. I think it's a great idea to use our nature for sources so that we won't have to use a lot of energy to produce electricity in the normal method. Just getting electricity air will be conserving a lot of energy and we will be able to have more electricity since it will be able to be recycled. Many people don't like lightning storms but people will start to like it because it'll give them free electricity. However, getting electricity from the air will be expensive to get all equipments to make it work but in the end it'll have great results hoepfully.
ReplyDelete3. It wouldn't completely replace our nonrenewable sources but hygroelectricity will definitely become a renewable source if it becomes availiable fast enough, or it can be nonrenewable if people really like this method of getting electricity and there aren't much resources left.
